WebMCP is a new, still experimental Chrome feature: a web page can offer its tools to the browser’s AI assistants. ModularSynth does: a compatible assistant can control the synth directly, with no server to install.
Turning it on
- Use Chrome 149 or later.
- Install an assistant that can use it, for example the Model Context Tool Inspector extension (Chrome Web Store, with a Gemini API key). Gemini in Chrome doesn’t use it yet.
- In ModularSynth, click AI and tick Let browser AI agents control the synth.
The AI window tells you whether WebMCP is available in your browser.
What the assistant can do
The same tools as with the MCP server: add modules, patch cables, set knobs, write sequences, play, build a song. Every action can be undone with Ctrl+Z.
For Claude Desktop, Claude Code or another AI app, the MCP server is still the simplest way today.
