A quantizer "rounds" a voltage to the nearest in-tune note. With the 1 V/octave standard, one semitone is 1/12 of a volt: 0.30 V lands between D# (0.25 V) and E (0.33 V). The Quant picks the closest note among the notes of the chosen scale and sends it out, nice and steady.
It is the easiest way to make a non-musical source sing: a slow LFO, sampled noise, an envelope. The result moves in notes instead of sliding.
Controls
- Scale: chromatic (all 12 notes), major, natural or harmonic minor, Dorian, major or minor pentatonic, blues. "FREE" lets everything through, so you can compare.
- Root: the note the scale starts from. D minor and A minor do not share the same notes.
The display sums up your choice, for example "MIN·D".
Inputs
- In: the voltage to quantize. It is polyphonic: each voice of a multi-channel cable is handled on its own.
Outputs
- Out: the voltage snapped to the in-tune note, with as many voices as the input.
