The most frequent issues, and how to get out of them.
I can’t hear anything
- Click Start audio, in the middle of the top bar: your browser only allows sound after a click. The lamp should be lit blue.
- Play a note (keys A S D F…): a patch often only makes sound while you play.
- Check that something reaches the Output: a cable must go to it, and its Gain knob must not be at zero.
- Check your computer’s volume, and that the tab isn’t muted in the browser.
When in doubt, open a preset: if it plays, your setup is fine and it’s the patch that needs a look.
My MIDI keyboard does nothing
- Use Chrome, Edge or Firefox: Safari doesn’t support MIDI yet. The browser may ask for permission: accept.
- Bottom right, MIDI shows the status; “unavailable” means the browser has no access.
- The patch must contain a MIDI→CV set to your keyboard and the right channel (or “All” for both).
The sound crackles or the synth is slow
- Close other heavy tabs, and lower the number of voices in ⚙ Settings.
- If your computer has no real graphics card, choose the Simplified rendering in ⚙ Settings, under Rendering.
- The 3D studio needs graphics acceleration: if it’s too slow, stay in the 2D view, the sound is the same.
On a Mac
Shortcuts written with Ctrl also work with Cmd: Cmd+Z to undo, Cmd+D to duplicate a module.
I broke everything
Ctrl+Z (or Cmd+Z) undoes, as many times as you like, AI actions included. To start over, the ☰ menu offers New.
On a phone
ModularSynth works on phones and tablets, but the screen is small: the 2D view and the Learn course are more comfortable in landscape.
